what’s growing in september
🍠🫜🥬🥦🌱🥕🍎🍇🌽🥔🧄

eating seasonally, and locally, has always been important to me. it always tastes the best, and it’s beneficial for literally everyone.

now that I’ve started gardening, I’ve realized that growing my own vegetables isn’t as easy as you’d think. it takes a lot of patience, care, attention, and even after all of that, it can still fail. farmers don’t get enough credit 👨‍🌾

swipe through for what’s growing in september + learn what you can still plant now.. even if you’re a beginner! some fall produce grows incredibly fast, without much effort 🌿 try it, you might surprise yourself! 👩🏼‍🌾🥬

APPLES
Peak season: late summer through fall
    •    different varieties ripen at different times
    •    a apple should come off the tree fairly easily
    •    eat them fresh, bake them, make my fav apple pie overnight oats 🤞🏻 or add them to salads
    •    apple season is officially here & im so excited🍎🙌🏼

SWEET CORN
    •    peak season: July–September
    •    best eaten as soon as possible after picking
    •    look for full ears with fresh looking husks
    •    grill it, boil it, add it to salads or eat it straight off the cob… I highly recommend trying my Cobb Salad with BBQ Chickpeas featured in @glowjars.co 🌽

PEARS
    •    late summer into fall depending on the variety
    •    many pears are best picked before they’re completely ripe
    •    they’re good fresh, baked, poached or, my personal fav: added to salads 🥗🍐

BROCCOLI
    •    a cool weather veg
    •    roast it, steam it, stir-fry it… you really can’t go wrong 🥦

GRAPES
    •    usually ready late summer into early fall
    •    they should be sweet and fully colored when picked
    •    underrated fruit to simply snack on 🍇🫶🏼

CABBAGE
    •    another crop that loves cooler weather (watch out for cabbage worms!)
    •    peak season: fall 🥬
    •    harvest when the head feels firm
    •    can handle some frost.. yay ❄️
    •    great for slaws, soups, roasting + kimchi
    •    can be re-grown! 😌

ZUCCHINI
    •    peak summer crop, but often continues p

this one was so yummy, and literally comes together in minutes! it has lots of protein from the plant-based chickn, the sprouts 🌱 and the pita.

I love using @josephspitabread for my bread, wraps; and pita, etc. they’re always fortified with nutrients and protein, and super low carb! Idk how they do it because it tastes amazing.

I didn’t know that people really create food content and don’t eat the food…
I didn’t know that people would promote veganism meanwhile they cook meat to throw it out just for views & money.

I’m not here to expose the negative aspects though. It just opened my eyes to a sad reality that has propelled me to inspire the opposite.
